Planning to capture family portraits is an exciting time and should be an enjoyable experience! If you find yourself struggling with coordinating your family’s outfits for your session, I’ve added a few tips to help.
Choose a color palette and a different color within the palette for each family member to wear. Try to keep the colors similar in shades so that your family portraits are cohesive. Include neutrals in your options!
Avoid putting family members in the same outfits. To add variety, include a texture or pattern that matches your color palette. Keep in mind, that’s only for one or two family members. You’re looking for balance.
Once you have a few options, place everything together in a row to view. Eliminate any articles that don’t quite go with your chosen color palette. Don’t include anything that clashes with articles you want to be worn for your family portraits.
Prioritize favorable outfits. Remember, this is supposed to be fun! We look and feel our best when we are in outfits that make us feel good. You’ll have more of an enjoyable experience if you pick outfits that make you feel your absolute best while wearing.
